• The cartridges run out quickly or are not efficient (sometimes it is hard to draw good vapor, sometimes it is not)
• The liquid in the cartridge tend to drip out when you inhale it.
• the USB charger now does not work
• The cartridges do not last for a very long time even when I don’t smoke it THAT much.
• One of the batteries now does not work (I have to use the other one to successfully atomize (is that a real word?) the liquid to produce vapor
• The hits are not hard enough and I do not feel it as much as the SmokeStik.

With all the negatives I’d still say smoking the Luci Electronic Cigarette is still better than not smoking anything at all because one some days when I wasn’t able to smoke the electronic cigarette I was really craving regular cigarettes and when I do have the e-cig on hand and use it I don’t crave the e-cigs nearly as much. While this may be mental I think that’s still a big benefit.

Even though the Luci electronic cigarette looks pretty nice and is a bit smaller than the SmokeStik, there’s something about it that makes it a bit less appealing. I think the atomizer heats up either faster or is noticeably hotter because of the small size. This in itself makes it much worse. I rather smoke a larger sized e-cig if I don’t have put it down as often as I have to with the Luci brand.

Another thing is the cartridges. I think the SmokeStik Cartridges work better. I’m not sure why but after using both for long stretches at a time, I think the cartridges that the SmokeStik’s use are either less harsh so you can take harder hits and therefore allowing your body to absorb it better, or they contain more nicotine. If anybody has experience in smoking either of these electronic cigarettes please let me know. I’m very curious about your experiences with the cigarettes as well.

Below are two pictures of the SmokeStik and Luci E-cigs compared side to side. The SmokeStik Premium as you can see is a bit larger than the Luci e-cig.. not too much larger but noticeably so.

The batteries seem very similar in size though.

There’s is obviously a lot of marketing material talking about the positive effects of electronic cigarettes. Heck, this site is one of them, we pitch the positive effects of e-cigs and I personally write about my own experiences I have when I smoke electronic cigarettes.

I have been smoking electronic cigarettes for a while now, long enough to know that there are negatives. Here’s a list of some of them, mainly from my experiences in smokeing SmokeStiks and My Luci e-cigs:

• Still causes some irritation in the throat: Not as much as smoking cigarettes, but when I smoke a couple cartridges a day I will still feel a bit sore the next day in the throat and sometimes it leads to a bit of coughing as well. This could be due to the water vapor building up in your throat after a lot of smoking or it could be due to the heated vapor slightly burning and causing irritation in your throat.
• Inconsistent smoke: SmokeStiks and My Luci e-cigs are pretty good with burning of the vapor in a consistent fashion but not always. Sometimes you will have good vapor and then the next couple of hits will be bad, leading you to think you need a new cartridge. Then, the next thing you know, its back to being good quality vapor again. This could be annoying because you’re not sure if you should REALLY change cartridges.
• Battery life: Although you usually get 2 batteries with your order of electronic cigarettes so you do have a back up, they run out quite fast and if you are not at home, it could be pretty annoying to run out and not be able to replace the battery.
• HOT HOT HOT: The Luci Cigarette and even the SmokeStik can heat up relatively quickly even after a few puffs. This forces you to be able to only take a couple hits before it’s too hot to handle. Although taking lighter and shorter hits can prevent this, it can still be annoying.

There you have it, a short list of things that annoy me about electronic cigarettes. That being said I still think it is healthier than smoking regular cigarettes and the benefits can outweigh smoking regular cigarettes enormously.

The fact is that the SmokeStik and the Luci have many differences. One of the differences that both the SmokeStik e-cig and the Luci e-cig have is the atomizer, the part of the electronic cigarette that heats up and turns the liquid nicotine into vapor.

The SmokeStik atomizer is below:

The Luci atomizer is below:

The SmokeStik atomizer is more descreet. It doesn’t stick out of the metal container but if you look inside you can see the part that heats up and burns. By doing this it reduces heat when you are smoking the electronic cigarette. There are times when you smoke too long or too fast the device can heat up and actually burn your lips a bit. This is obviously not what you want. Because it is inside the metal container it is harder to reach if little fibers get caught in the device. Sometimes this happens when the cartridges material sticks to the atomizer.

The Luci atomizer sticks out more and this causes the Luci cigarette to become hot quicker than the SmokeStik. This is a bit annoying since you will have to stop smoking it and wait for it to cool down. Sometimes I put it next to my USB fan to cool it down even faster. That being said I think the Luci burns the catridge liquid much more consistly and makes better use of it. Meaning there will probably be less chance that you will waste some of the liquid in the cartridges when you use the Luci electronic cigarette.

All in all I like the Luci atomizer a bit more because of how it burns the catridges but I do not like the fact that the Luci electronic cigarette seems to get hotter faster than the SmokeStik. Oh well, you can’t have it all.

I just received my Luci advanced starter kit and so far I really like it. The design of the atomizer makes it so a lot of the cartridge is burnt up and not much will be wasted. I initially thought that most of the electronic cigarettes out there are pretty much the same besides the design, but this is not true.

There are many notable differences between the SmokeStik and the Luci. Besides the general look of the e-cig, the amount of e-cig vapor that is generated, the atomizer design and differences in the accessories make the two brands different from each other.

Once I try the Luci for a couple more weeks, I will document the exact differences in the two brands or at least give you guys a more extensive review of what I experience with the Luci electronic cigarette.

But so far, so good. The packaging is slick which gives me a good first impression. It doesn’t look too cheap (I guess they can’t make it too cheap because it is pretty expensive, even for an e-cig). I like the small compact packaging. It makes it look much nicer compared to the SmokeStik packaging with was a little bit too large.

The USB charger is pretty cool as well.  You don’t have to twist the battery in like the normal charger. If you guys have any additional input on what you think about the Luci electronic cigarette, please let me know. It would be great to hear your experiences with this brand of e-cig.

Well I’m waiting for my friend to arrive in Hong Kong on Wednesday so I can begin my process of quitting regular analog cigarettes and start smoking Luci cigarettes again. I promise to do some reviews on the Luci electronic cigarette to see if I can actually quit out here in Asia. It’s typically very difficult to quit out in this environment for me.  It could be because you tend to go out more in this environment and because of that you drink more and because of that you smoke more.

Another reason could be that people just smoke more here in the city. You can even smoke indoors at many places. The law makes it so individuals are the ones that are fined for smoking indoors and not the establishments. This makes it easy for anybody to smoke indoors.  If a police officer walks by just put your cigarette down. Even if they smell cigarettes around and question you, you can say “nope, I didn’t smoke”. That environment pretty much means smoking is allowed as long as the restaurant or bar’s managers and owners allow it.

I don’t think I’ll bring my electronic cigarette in doors because they are still illegal in Hong Kong. So therefore there’s a chance I will still smoke regular cigarettes when I go out, we’ll see. I will update you guys.

I was on some type of quit smoking website today and I saw the picture above.  It’s a pretty nasty picture actually and I’m sure there are a lot more out there.  How much of it is based off reality I’m not sure.  I do believe a big part of it is though.The first couple of images are just disgusting images of what the nasty components in cigarettes can do to you. I think it’s the tar.  The fist picture looks more like chocolate chip cookie than a lung.  Again, pretty gross.

When you think about what you are actually doing to your body when you inhale cigarette smoke and see pictures like this, it really makes you reconsider smoking, at least temporarily.  For myself, I’ve been inside most of the day, besides going to the gym earlier so I haven’t had an opportunity to smoke a cigarette yet.  I was thinking about going out and having a cigarette but after seeing this picture I think I’ll just stay in.  I’m sure I’ll feel like having a cigarette tomorrow but for the time being I am OK.

It will be great once I do get my Luci electronic cigarette because then I will be able to use them indoors as well.  After smoking the SmokeStik temporarily months ago in the U.S., I realize the benefits of using electronic cigarettes.  I stopped using it only because I relocated here to Hong Kong where it is illegal but I think they only try to get you if you sell or distribute it.  We will see.  In either  case I’m excited to try out the Luci cigarettes and to document my progress.

It has been hard to quit smoking cigarettes ever since I relocated because I do go out and I do have some drinks here and there and those are the times that you really want to have cigarettes (and electronic cigarettes once you get used to them).

The drunkards usually ask to try it and take a hit, then ask about the costs and locations where they could buy the SmokeStiks or Luci cigarettes.  Out of those people, half of them usually ask me about it the next day and the other half forget about it.  So far I’ve converted about 5-6 people into trying electronic cigarettes and most of them enjoy using them.  It’s really not hard to sell them the benefits of smoking them.  SmokeStiks, Luci Cigarettes or any other type of electronic cigarettes are just to new and odd to most people to be come mainstream YET.  Hopefully more official studies and news reports on the dangers of electronic cigarettes could be done so that these devices can benefit more people.

Many of you that read my blog know that I have been smoking the SmokeStiks for a while and I do enjoy it a lot. It’s time to see if there are any difference in the quality of electronic cigarettes. They seem to have the same technology and I believe many of them are produced by the same type of manufacturers out in China, but nevertheless I will test out the Luci Electronic cigarette.

I will be receiving this soon and will keep everybody posted on the how the Luci differs from the SmokeStik e-cigs. I do like the fact that the starter kit I got comes with a USB charger as well!
